Quantum Technology Security Engineer

Apply
  • Job Location: Munich, Germany
  • Type: Permanent
  • Posted: 03/02/2025

Your Tasks

- The next generation of secure communication must be able to withstand future threat scenarios
that potentially take advantage of available state-of-the-art technologies. Satellite-based
quantum key distribution (QKD) offers a paradigm-changing solution to the key distribution problem,
enabling a new way of provably secure communication, especially over long distances.

- Ongoing and future projects will require a finite-key security analysis with emphasis on implementation
security for QKD protocols or quantum-based random number generation (QRNG). In particular, the gap
between theoretical concepts and their experimental implementation with current optical/photonic
technologies needs to be closed.

- As part of several quantum technology development projects, we are looking for support for our
quantum technology development team. If you are interested in shaping the future of the European secure
communication infrastructure and already bring expertise in the theoretical description of quantum systems,
this open position might be a perfect fit for you.

Your Qualifications

- PhD in theoretical physics, mathematics, theoretical computer science, quantum optics, or
equivalent with a strong background in quantum mechanical modeling of systems

- Experience with development of security proofs in the context of QKD protocols or QRNGs
and their implementations, i.e., against quantum adversaries

- Motivation to actively participate in space-based missions to secure future European data communications

- Experience in performance simulations of QKD systems, including secret key rate estimations

- Willingness to explore the development of new protocols in collaboration with academic partners

- Ideally, technical knowledge and experience in crypto systems

- Passion for providing systematic approaches to prove the security properties of systems and
experience or interest in learning security risk analysis according to the EBIOS or ISO method

- Ability to work in a team with a self-managed and proactive working style

- Experience in or willingness to learn to participate in and lead proposals and subsequent studies

Benefits

- Flexible working hours, sabbaticals, 30 days of holiday, and special leave days.

- A range of training courses, tailored professional development, subsidised German language classes,
and annual employee reviews.

- 13th-month salary, accident insurance, and a company pension scheme.

- High-quality company canteen with meal subsidies.

- Health management, E-GYM Wellpass access, and in-company sports groups.

- Kindergarten subsidies/places, holiday childcare, and paid child sickness days.

- Subsidised Deutschland ticket, job bike, and parking spaces.

- Christmas party, satellite launch events, and NextGen Speakers Night.

- Company suggestion scheme and opportunities for research and development.
